Gettysburg College Catholic Campus Ministry Hosts Rorate Mass
Many Catholic students at Gettysburg College rose early on Friday, December 2 to participate in a tradition that dates back to the Middle Ages. As they walked into a dark and quiet Christ Chapel, they could see some seats illuminated only by candlelight.
Celebration for St. Francis Xavier Brings the Parish Together
On Friday, December 2, members of the Parish Pastoral Council, Finance Council, Comité de Cristo Rey, and School Advisory Board hosted a celebration in honor of the patron of our parish, St. Francis Xavier.
Parishioner Visits St. John Neumann’s Birthplace
During his preparations for the Annual William K. Collinge lecture at St. Francis Xavier last summer, parishioner Dr. Charles Strauss learned a great deal about St. John Neumann, a 19th-century Bishop of Philadelphia who laid the cornerstone for St. Francis Xavier’s Historic Church in 1852 and returned to dedicate the church on July 31, 1853, the Feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola. The Strauss family had already prepared to spend the fall in Prague, as Charles and his wife, Elizabeth’s academic and professional ventures would take them to St. John Neumann’s homeland.
10th Annual Collinge Lecture will center on St. John Neumann
Dr. Charles Strauss, Associate Professor of History at Mount St. Mary’s University, will deliver “ʻThe Church as Field Hospital’: St. John Neumann, St. Francis Xavier Parish, and Catholic Social Teaching” as the tenth annual William K. Collinge Lecture.
Soup & Scripture Returns with Gusto
This was our first full Soup & Scripture after two years of covid and it represented a revitalization of the program that many have attended over the years.
Annual Fish Fry Returns with Success
If you were eating fish for the past few Fridays, there was a good chance that you did so at our 11th Parish Lenten Fish Fry. It was the first full five date inside event in 2 years and it was a total success.
Parish Maintenance Update
Your parish finance council has been working hard behind the scenes to help our parish flourish. Unfortunately, Covid-19 threw a monkey wrench into our plans. Thank God we were able to continue worshiping throughout the past two years plus. But, it did put a large dent into our finances. Everyone tightened their belts and we are coming out leaner and stronger.
