Welcome to St. Francis Xavier Parish!
Our parish was founded in 1831, and incredibly, St. John Neumann blessed the cornerstone of our historic church on West High Street in 1852 and returned on July 31, 1853, to dedicate it. For nearly two centuries, we have literally and figuratively undertaken Pope Francis’ calling for the Church to serve as a Field Hospital, having housed a literal hospital in our historic church building during the months following the Civil War battle here in Gettysburg, PA, and our parish school and parish hall, which neighbor our historic church on High Street, having served our United States Army as a hospital during the Spanish Influenza Epidemic in September 1918. The troops that we cared for were those under the command of, at that time, Lieutenant Colonel Dwight D. Eisenhower. The grace of God called us to serve the troops of our country as a hospital twice in our history.
We have continued to welcome, minister to, and provide care and support, as well educate the residents of Gettysburg and Adams County for many decades in our historic church, our parish school, and parish hall, which now stand at Table Rock Road, just outside of historic downtown Gettysburg. We welcome you into this tradition and pray you find Christ present at the center of all we do.
