Soup & Scripture Final Report

The 2025 Lenten Soup & Scripture program has now completed. Under the guidance of Fr. Pray and a Soup & Scripture committee, a new format was introduced which offered for the first time an opportunity to break down into personal discussion groups after the main program concluded. Also for the first time, there was a separate program of involvement for the children & youth of the Parish. Before the program, Parishioners were once again offered a wholesome soup with freshly baked bread to start the event off. This year’s presentations had the highest attendance (344 adults with 49 children) since 2016, while the donations to the Parish were the highest ever at $1,586. There was no cost to the Parish at this time.

This will be our last involvement with the soup portion of the program. We would like to thank all those that helped present this program over the past 16 years; especially Sue Tharp, who baked the bread the entire time. Assisting with procurement, donation, preparation, additional set-up, take-down, serving, and clean-up were Sue Tharp, Stephanie Lapham, Bob & Helen DeFayette, Deb Drobenak, and Lucy Simmons. Jim McGinnis often assisted me carving up chicken or ham for a soup. We are blessed to have them all as friends. The 7th/8th grade students did the preliminary arrangement of the tables & chairs often assisted by Administrative Assistant Kim Reiner, and Custodian Joe Hallinan.

Just by the numbers FYI, 885 gallons of soup were prepared over the 16 years, 4,656 people broke bread in spirit with the Lord and ate soup for dinner, and they contributed via donation or purchase of soup $ 14,543.00 to their Parish. Thank You all for a great experience.

Respectfully Submitted,

Grace & Ken Zaveckas
