Dear Families and Friends of St. Francis Xavier Parish,

“O my people! I will put my spirit in you that you may live, and I will settle you upon your land; thus you shall know that I am the LORD. I have promised, and I will do it, says the LORD.”

When our parish received the message in June 2023 that we unexpectedly owed $871,980 for our property, and then in June 2024 we added another $85,712 in coming up short on our budget, for a total parish debt of $957,693, it seemed like a near impossible goal.

Only God could accomplish such a thing. We knew this, and so we prayerfully set to work. At nearly the same time, as though by Providence, we received another message, that we were given a grant by the bishop for a 3-year program through Catholic Leadership Institute, to not only discern the most prevalent needs of the parish, but to develop and implement initiatives to meet them. A team of key parishioners were gathered for this task, and we are in the second year of this program of our strategic vision of who we are called to be, our priorities needed to accomplish this, and implementing parish programs and changes to meet these goals.

Then, another apparent act of Providence: the Bishop's Debt Reduction Challenge, an offer from diocesan finance to match 100% of parish giving to our capital campaign. After meeting with Kirby-Smith, our campaign consultants, and Diocesan Finance, we were mercifully granted entry into this program in November, despite not meeting all the requirements, and kicked off our Capital Campaign in January. And because of the great work of Kirby-Smith, and our office staff, our Finance Council, and our CLI team on Organization and Management, and most especially the heroic and selfless generosity of our parish families, we are now, only three months later, within $180,000 of receiving enough to pay off this near impossible debt, that we knew only God could accomplish. And we prayed, and trusted Him, and followed the way He seemed to be laying out before us. There is still much to do, but with God, all things are possible.

Queridas familias y amigos de la parroquia de San Francisco Javier:

“¡Pueblo mío! Ustedes diran que yo soy el SEÑOR. Entonces les infundiré mi Espíritu y vivirán, los estableceré en su tierra; así sabrán que yo, el Señor, lo dije y lo cumpli.”

Cuando nuestra parroquia recibió el mensaje en junio de 2023 de que debíamos inesperadamente $871,980 por nuestra propiedad, y luego en junio de 2024 añadimos otros $85,712 al quedarnos cortos en nuestro presupuesto, para una deuda parroquial total de $957,693, parecía una meta casi imposible.

Solo Dios podía lograr algo así. Lo sabíamos, y por eso, con oración, nos pusimos manos a la obra. Casi al mismo tiempo, como por obra de la Providencia, recibimos otro mensaje: el obispo nos había otorgado una subvención para un programa de tres años a través del Instituto de Liderazgo Católico, no solo para discernir las necesidades más frecuentes de la parroquia, sino también para desarrollar e implementar iniciativas para satisfacerlas. Se reunió un equipo de feligreses clave para esta tarea, y estamos en el segundo año de este programa, con nuestra visión estratégica de quiénes estamos llamados a ser, nuestras prioridades necesarias para lograrlo y la implementación de programas y cambios parroquiales para alcanzar estos objetivos.

Luego, otro aparente acto de la Providencia: el Desafío de Reducción de Deuda del Obispo, una oferta de finanzas diocesanas para igualar el 100% de las donaciones de la parroquia a nuestra campaña de capital. Tras reunirnos con Kirby-Smith, nuestros asesores de campaña, y Finanzas Diocesanas, se nos permitió participar en este programa en noviembre, a pesar de no cumplir con todos los requisitos, y lanzamos nuestra Campaña de Capital en enero. Y gracias a la excelente labor de Kirby-Smith, nuestro personal de oficina, nuestro Consejo de Finanzas y nuestro equipo de CLI en Organización y Gestión, y especialmente a la generosidad heroica y desinteresada de nuestras familias parroquiales, ahora, tan solo tres meses después, estamos a menos de $180,000 de recibir lo suficiente para pagar esta deuda casi imposible, que sabíamos que solo Dios podía lograr. Oramos, confiamos en Él y seguimos el camino que parecía trazarnos. Aún queda mucho por hacer, pero con Dios, todo es posible.
