Dear Families and Friends of St. Francis Xavier Parish, 

“Put out into deep water and lower your nets” (Lk 5:4)

I know that we have had a lot put upon us in these days, lately, as a parish. We had the difficult news about the property debt, but then we had the great news about the Bishop’s Debt Relief Program, which allow us to have our payments doubled until June. Then we had the great news that we blew past our DAC goal and have money coming back, but then the difficult news that our goal for next year is higher by a daunting (but reachable) amount. And then last weekend, the difficult news that we are quite behind in our offertory giving as a parish, but then the great news that if we can get back on top of that, we can stay in the Bishop’s Debt Relief Program past June, and possibly up to the end of the program in 2027, if we haven’t paid off our debt by then.

So with every challenge has come a silver lining. Every set back has come with a way through it. Everything that’s been thrown at this parish we’ve responded to with faith, and God has instructed us to put out into the deep water, to drink deeply of our faith in His providence, and we have found that He is filling our nets with a miraculous catch. 

So while we as a parish have to keep these three buckets full—the offertory, the debt challenge, and the DAC goal, God is continuing to invite us to put out into the deep, to give generously, and sacrificially, and joyfully, and the more we place our treasure and our heart in Him, the more we direct our hearts to be opened by his even greater generosity, for those who love Him and trust in His ways. 

It’s the mystery of faith. If God can take a loaf of bread, a chalice of wine, and a Roman execution, and turn it into the heavenly banquet of his body and blood, his death and resurrection, and the gift of the Holy Spirit, providing the communion of grace that empowers the good of the Church and her children across thousands of years, can we not trust him with everything? He has joyfully and abundantly shown His love for us! Let us trust Him and follow Him!

Queridas familias y amigos de la parroquia de San Francisco Javier:

“Lleva la barca mar adentro y echen sus redes para pescar”. (Lc 5,4)

Sé que hemos tenido que hacer frente a muchas cosas en estos días, últimamente, como parroquia. Recibimos la difícil noticia sobre la deuda inmobiliaria, pero luego tuvimos la gran noticia sobre el Programa de Alivio de la Deuda del Obispo, que nos permite duplicar nuestros pagos hasta junio. Luego tuvimos la gran noticia de que superamos nuestra meta de DAC y tenemos dinero en camino, pero luego la difícil noticia de que nuestra meta para el próximo año es más alta por una cantidad desalentadora (pero alcanzable). Y luego, el fin de semana pasado, la difícil noticia de que estamos bastante atrasados en nuestra donación al ofertorio como parroquia, pero luego la gran noticia de que si podemos volver a estar al día con eso, podemos permanecer en el Programa de Alivio de la Deuda del Obispo después de junio, y posiblemente hasta el final del programa en 2027, si no hemos pagado nuestra deuda para entonces.

Así que con cada desafío ha llegado un rayo de luz. Cada obstáculo ha venido acompañado de una manera de superarlo. Hemos respondido con fe a todo lo que se nos ha presentado en esta parroquia, y Dios nos ha ordenado que nos hagamos a la mar, que bebamos profundamente de nuestra fe en Su providencia, y hemos descubierto que Él está llenando nuestras redes con una pesca milagrosa.

Así que, mientras que nosotros como parroquia tenemos que mantener estos tres baldes llenos (el ofertorio, el desafío de la deuda y la meta del DAC), Dios sigue invitándonos a remar mar adentro, a dar generosamente, con sacrificio y con alegría, y cuanto más depositemos nuestro tesoro y nuestro corazón en Él, más dirigiremos nuestros corazones para que se abran a Su generosidad aún mayor, para aquellos que lo aman y confían en Sus caminos.

Es el misterio de la fe. Si Dios puede tomar un pan, un cáliz de vino y una ejecución romana y convertirlos en el banquete celestial de su cuerpo y sangre, su muerte y resurrección y el don del Espíritu Santo, brindando la comunión de gracia que fortalece el bien de la Iglesia y sus hijos a lo largo de miles de años, ¿no podemos confiarle todo? ¡Él nos ha mostrado su amor con alegría y abundancia! ¡Confiemos en Él y sigámoslo!
