Enduring and Eternal | Duradera y eterna

Dear Families and Friends of St. Francis Xavier Parish,

“…then comes the end, when he hands over the kingdom to his God and Father, when he has destroyed every sovereignty and every authority and power.”

The only sovereignty, authority, and power that endures forever is that of God, given through the Holy Spirit to the Church. The laws of the Church surpass in wisdom, love, and authority the laws of any temporal government or society, because they come from the eternal wellspring of wisdom, love, and authority. 

The laws of temporal governments are only good and valid to the extent that they reflect the supernatural truth and goodness of the teachings of the Church. And the Church transcends all man-made governments not just because of her universal (catholic) scope, but because the supernatural source of her beginning, end, and authority are infinitely greater than that of any temporal government.

All governments, all societies will pass away. The Church endures forever: the Pilgrim Church or Church Militant in this world, those here engaged in the spiritual battle against the Enemy whose defeat is certain; the Church Penitent or Church Suffering, those in purgatory undergoing the purifying fires to remove any last vestige of imperfection; and the Church Victorious or Church Triumphant, the saints in heaven who have completed the race and intercede for us still striving to join them in the majestic presence of God.

The fallen world will pass away. Only eternal spiritual beings will endure. Heaven and Hell will not pass away. Heaven, where spirits and souls go to live forever with God, or Hell, where spirits and souls go to die forever apart from God. How our judgment goes at the end of our earthly life depends on how holy and virtuously we live during this life.

These are the Last Things: Death, Judgment, Heaven, and Hell. Let us prepare prudently with divine wisdom, let us pray humbly for divine mercy. And let us live generously by divine love.

Estimadas familias y amigos de la parroquia St. Francis Xavier,

“…luego vendrá el fin, cuando entregue el reino a su Dios y Padre, cuando haya destruido toda soberanía y toda autoridad y poder”.

La única soberanía, autoridad y poder que perdura para siempre es el de Dios, dado a través del Espíritu Santo a la Iglesia. Las leyes de la Iglesia superan en sabiduría, amor y autoridad a las leyes de cualquier gobierno o sociedad temporal, porque provienen de la fuente eterna de la sabiduría, el amor y la autoridad. 

Las leyes de los gobiernos temporales sólo son buenas y válidas en la medida en que reflejan la verdad y la bondad sobrenaturales de las enseñanzas de la Iglesia. Y la Iglesia trasciende todos los gobiernos creados por el hombre no sólo por su alcance universal (católico), sino porque la fuente sobrenatural de su principio, fin y autoridad es infinitamente mayor que la de cualquier gobierno temporal.

Todos los gobiernos, todas las sociedades desaparecerán. La Iglesia perdura para siempre: la Iglesia Peregrina o Iglesia Militante en este mundo, aquellos aquí comprometidos en la batalla espiritual contra el Enemigo cuya derrota es segura; la Iglesia Penitente o Iglesia Sufriente, los que en el purgatorio se someten a los fuegos purificadores para eliminar cualquier último vestigio de imperfección; y la Iglesia Victoriosa o Iglesia Triunfante, los santos en el cielo que han completado la carrera e interceden por nosotros que aún nos esforzamos por unirnos a ellos en la majestuosa presencia de Dios. 

El mundo caído pasará. Sólo los seres espirituales eternos perdurarán. El cielo y el infierno no pasarán. El Cielo, donde los espíritus y las almas van a vivir para siempre con Dios, o el Infierno, donde los espíritus y las almas van a morir para siempre separados de Dios. La forma en que vaya nuestro juicio al final de nuestra vida terrenal depende de cuán santa y virtuosamente vivamos durante esta vida. 

Estas son las Últimas Cosas: Muerte, Juicio, Cielo e Infierno. Preparémonos prudentemente con la sabiduría divina, oremos humildemente por la misericordia divina. Y vivamos generosamente por el amor divino.
